He is a former National President of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics; Founder President, National Neonatology Forum, India; Professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics, University College of Medical Sciences and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi; Editor, Indian Paediatrics.

He has been a member of several prestigious committees, such as the World Health Organization; Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Children Board, Planning Commission, Government of India, and Indian Council of Medical Research.
