Tania Cliffe Tautari Te Arawa, Ngai Tahu, New Zealand

Dr Tania Cliffe-Tautari affiliates to Te Arawa and Ngai Tahu Māori tribal groups and is a Lecturer in Te Puna Wānanga School of Māori and Indigenous Studies in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Her most recent and current research to date intersects multiple contexts across education, social services, and youth justice. She received her PhD and Master of Education from the University of Auckland and her doctoral study investigated how cultural identity can act as a protective mechanism to strengthen resilience in Māori youth charged in court for a serious criminal offence. Tania’s research interests are driven by a desire to improve educational and social outcomes for Indigenous Māori youth. Tania currently lectures on courses in Huarahi Māori, Māori Medium education and research methodologies. With over 20 years of experience in education, her expertise traverses Māori medium education (including total immersion and bilingual and mainstream secondary); special education; and education in secure residences (including youth justice and care and protection).
