Explore the intersection of gender and psychology with The SAGE Encyclopedia of Psychology and Gender
As more public attention is drawn to those who are breaking the traditional gender binary, many wonder about the impact it is having—both on individuals and society at large. A variety of topics related to gender and psychology are addressed in The SAGE Encyclopedia of Psychology and Gender, recently published by SAGE. With nearly 600 entries by experts across a range of disciplines in four volumes, the text explores how gender affects society and individuals’ personalities, behaviors, worldviews, and more.
“One of the main motivations for creating The SAGE Encyclopedia of Psychology and Gender is the lack of comprehensive texts that outline the psychological study of gender,” writes volume editor Kevin L. Nadal, Ph.D. “While there have been many attempts to outline the history of feminist psychology, as well as many texts that endeavor to understand sex differences or gender roles, there are no known resources that comprehensively examine issues related to psychology and gender while using an intersectional, queer affirming, and transgender-inclusive approach.”
The text connects librarians, students, and professionals with up-to-date information on some of today’s issues and debates, such as the evolution of feminism, the men’s movement, and gender nonconformity, among others. Other key topics include the role of gender in different cultures, how gender intersects with developmental processes in infancy and throughout later life stages, and more.
The text includes a Reader’s Guide that organizes entries into 20 general topic categories such as biological sex differences, gender roles, and workplace and gender. For more information, visit The SAGE Encyclopedia of Psychology and Gender’s website.
