This book provides an excellent background of information for all teachers in view of the clear expectations from the new SEND Code of Practice and the continuing advance towards full inclusion. In providing a historical background to the medical and social model of disability as well as a clear definition and the discussion of some recent legislation, the foundations are set for the reader to have a greater awareness of where we are at this point in history. The structure of the book makes it easy to dip in and out of, although I would recommend teachers to read it in its entirety in order to develop and challenge their thinking on inclusion.

This is an excellent text. The exploration of key issues relating to inclusive practice has supported our taught sessions and has enabled students to engage with complex concepts and develop greater understanding of inclusive practice. They have then applied this to practice during teaching placements. Module assignments have drawn on the ideas explored in the book, supporting students to make links between theory and practice.

This is an excellent read - very informative but easily accessible. There are many thought provoking scenarios to assist discussion.

This is such an important aspect of all teaching now and this book provides background information setting the scene and then develops specific sections enabling the student to develop their understanding which hopefully they will be able to observe and implement when on placement.

A very readable and interesting look at SEND. The book will support the understanding of our students in relation to all aspects of SEND, including pedagogical choices, child development and wider inclusive classroom practices. It is extremely user friendly.

An extremely useful text that offers practical solutions with respect to creating inclusive learning environments. Highly recommended for primary teachers in training and those interested in developing their practice in this area.

This book will be a useful addition to the embedding of a cross curricular theme into teaching of core subjects. Trainee teachers will find it useful to learn from practical examples as well.
