'A very useful introduction to the key concepts in five main areas of study in sport and exercise science. The multi-disciplinary nature of the book is particularly attractive as it means that it can be used to support students studying a range of sport and exercise courses and modules. Furthermore, the chapters are concise, informative, written in an accessible style, and provide a good balance between theory and application to practice, making it a very interesting and relevant read' - Dr Lorraine Cale, Loughborough University

This book provides students and scholars with a fail-safe guide to the key concepts in the field of Sport & Exercise Science. Intelligently cross-referenced entries provide a sound map of the multi-disciplinary demands of sport related courses including physical and biological sciences, social science and education. The entries use clear definitions, examples and suggestions for further reading to explore each discipline and are:

" Comprehensive

" Lucid

" Pertinent to study needs

" Practically relevant

A great one stop shop for all the key terms and concepts our sport science students will encounter.
The book contains well explained and easy to follow terminology that has further reading links attached to all sections for the diligent student.

Can not think any tutor would need all the chapters... a very diverse book covering subjects i have never taught or been taught. That aside the information contained is a very good read, even if just for your own information to maybe use whilst teaching another subject.

An excellent book which will help support all learners on the course, especially those with aspirations of achieving high grades. This book acts as a whistle stop tour of the sports industry and also provides suitable links for further reading.

I believe this little text is better for revision or as supplemental reading than as a main course text. We will use it when preparing tutors for delivering coaching courses. The vignettes give enough information without being overly taxing. It is also a nice little book for any beginning coach who wants to broaden their horizon, and will be on the recommended reading list.

The book will support students through a range of modules offering an insight into a range of key concepts to include pedagogy, physiology, psychology, biomechanics and sociology. This is an easy book to read and understand.

The book is a good reference for first year students, which allows them to read around different areas of sport and exercise science. I will be listing this as further reading for the students.
