Language & Literacy in the Early Years 0-7
- Marian R Whitehead - Independent Consultant
The author emphasizes the joy and creativity involved in supporting young children's development as speakers, writers and readers. While taking account of current initiatives and programmes, the author supports flexible teaching methods in what is a complex teaching and learning process. The book is fully illustrated with examples and photos from early childhood settings.
This book is essential reading for primary and early years students and practitioners in the field of language and literacy including nursery nurses, classroom assistants and foundation stage teachers.
Students in the early years and primary found this text quite useful and enhanced their understanding of pedagogy in the Early Years. This text will be recommended in the Early Years specialism module delivery for this academic year.
An accessible and clear exposition of complex theories and their practical application to early years practice.
My colleague on the Early years team has found this book very useful and is recommending it to students.
This book is most helpful and excellently written for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The text is in support of the course module: Child Development; it has proven useful for students to access the materials pre3seneted in this book when analysing children's language development. The assignments reflect a reasonable number of students referring to tis source in their assignments. Thank you
This continues to be our core text for Primary and Early Years English, language and literacy. We also use the chapters on language development and narrative and storying to support students on our Dialogic Talking and Learning undergraduate Educational Studies module.
This is a very useful guide to early language acquisition and learning for new practitioners. I particularly liked the learning and teaching suggestions which show how theory can relate to practice. The summary boxes provide useful reference points and the section on emergent writing is a particular strength of the book.
Multiple copies have been requested as an addition to our library stock. Nice digestible (student friendly) information that informs good practice in the early years.
Excellent book by an outstanding author in this field: both accessibly written and up to date, and of a high standard of scholarship.
This is a very good text that introduces students to the links between language and literacy in a very accessible form. It is well suited in supplementing and complementing the undergraduate psycholinguisitcs and literacy course
