The book is an excellent introduction to the fundamental concepts of tourist studies. I appreciate the emphasis on sociological and critical concepts, which I believe are enriching for management students.
Change of course material and resources no longer warrants this book as being a requirement of the indicative reading list
This book is an excellent resource for studies, post-grads and researchers as it covers the most important concepts in tourism studies. The sections are concluded with recommended reading which helps the reader engage with different theories and concepts.

The book is an excellent resource for students at the beginning of their academic journey. It can be used as a dictionary as it gives a clear and straight to the point explanation of the most terms any travel and tourism student needs to be aware of. The topics are informative but concise, it is easy to pick some of them and explain them in class.
The text essentially x-rayed basic issues in understanding tourism. Well articulated text, I highly recommend this for undergraduate tourism students.
Suitable support material for learners giving a concise reference guide to key topics
Wide range of topics covered and the short introductory chapters provide the background basics. The economics chapter could have more up to date statistics and the reprint could have taken the opportunity for an update on newer publications for the further reading and recommended books section in each chapter. However, an easy to use book which students will use for initial background into the different topics.
Clear and straight to the point book that I have enjoyed using over the first term when it was used. Unit where book is used is an introductory unit for the degree and is thus giving many students a foundation understanding of the topic. The topics are short and informative - thus easy to build a lecture around a set of them each. The students (who do not have English as their mother-tongue) have found the book understandable a pleasantly free of jargon.

Publication can be very helpful for students to develop an approach for different tourism-related research projects - in particular to have a basis for the research of topic-related theoretical material.
Book is very useful for different courses in tourism studies: research, psychology & sociology, healt & spa tourism... The articles provide a good introduction to basic topics and therefore are a good "starting point" for further research. I will recommend the book to students particulary in courses, where students have to carry out research or to produce research articles or papers.
what I like very much:
1) further reading and recommended books essentail for the particular topisc
2) the base of different concept and views on tourism as a science
3) practical examples which are easy addapted by students
what, in my oppinion, is missed:
the explenantion how those key concept may be combined, the should be presented with clue - not as some kind of dictionary
This book is OK, and handy for those students who want to pursue a specialisation in tourism studies. But I will not recommend this book for my general students
The book is well written but not entirely relevant to the module, and due to budget constraints, and other similar books already within the library I can not justify this additional purchase.
A very user friendly text, particularly accessible for first year students.
