SAGE has an agreement with Jisc for subscribing Jisc institution members to cover open access article processing charges (APCs) for affiliated corresponding authors. The UK Jisc Agreement, open to all UK institutions wo are members of the consortium, will run between 2020 and 2022 and includes back dating to the 1st January. UK member institutions can opt-in to this agreement via the Jisc ordering website. Please contact the open access team at your university if you are unsure if your institution is participating in the agreement.

The details of the UK Jisc Agreement are as follows:

Subscription journals: Corresponding authors publishing an article in 900+ subscription journals in the current SAGE Premier package, as well as in the IMechE Journal Collection and the Royal Society of Medicine Collection, which offer hybrid open access publishing (SAGE Choice) can be published open access, free of charge.

Authors in subscription journals do not need to take any action to benefit from this offer. As soon an institution is set up as part of the agreement, SAGE will contact all eligible authors to inform them of the Open Access agreement with Jisc and to invite them to the SAGE Open Access Portal to take up the offer as soon as their accepted article has been received into SAGE’s Production department.

Please note all authors should still complete the steps to sign SAGE’s Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement on acceptance as normal. SAGE still requires this agreement for your article to proceed to production at SAGE. Through the SAGE Open Access Portal, you will automatically receive an open access Contributor’s Agreement that will replace the earlier signed agreement. Please note that your institution may have a preference for the CC-BY licence. Contact your Open Access team with queries about choosing your licence.

Gold open access journals: Corresponding authors publishing an article in a gold open access journal are also entitled to a 20% discount on the prevailing article processing charge (APC) on 150+ pure Gold journals. Click here for the participating Gold journal title list.

Authors publishing in a gold open access journal will need to enter the Jisc discount code into the payment system at the point of payment. This Gold journal discount process will soon also be automated in the SAGE Open Access portal. Once the migration is complete (anticipated to be the early summer of 2020) authors will not need to take any action to benefit from the discount. Instead the discount will be automatically applied to the prevailing rate APC for the journal. Where an author is eligible for more than one discount, discounts cannot be combined but the highest discount available to the author will be automatically applied to the APC due.
