SAGE supports library travel grant for ALPSP International Conference 2014

April 14, 2014

Los Angeles, CA - SAGE has announced it will be sponsoring a librarian place for the fourth consecutive year at the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) International conference. The annual event takes place Wednesday 10 - Friday 12 September 2014 in London, United Kingdom.

As a world-leading independent academic and professional publisher, SAGE has supported the ALPSP conference as a sponsor since its launch in 2008. This is the fourth year SAGE has supported a librarian travel grant at the event, which provides a free place at the conference for a librarian or information professional, including entry to the ALPSP awards dinner, travel within the UK, and accommodation for one person.

To be in with the chance to win a sponsored place, librarians are being asked to complete the following short survey on the challenges and developments that they face/have seen in their role. The survey can be accessed at www.uk.sagepub.com/alpsp2014.sp. Keep an eye on @SAGELibraryNews for updates.

Audrey McCulloch, Chief Executive of ALPSP remarked:

“The links between publishers and information professionals continue to strengthen, with exciting new ideas and collaborations emerging at this time of unprecedented change for both professions. We are delighted that SAGE has continued their sponsorship of a librarian place at the annual conference. This allows these links to develop and helps to build greater shared awareness.”

The 2013 recipient of the ALPSP travel grant, Penny Andrews, Library Graduate Trainee at Leeds Metropolitan University remarked:

“The ALSP award was invaluable in helping me to understand the publisher's perspective on Open Access, particularly the issues affecting smaller publishers and learned societies. I would not have been able to have the important conversations I experienced without the support of the travel grant from SAGE.”

Clive Parry, Global Marketing Director, SAGE commented:

“In an environment where both the education and research landscapes are rapidly evolving, it is increasingly important that both librarians and publishers work together to support the dissemination of knowledge. The ALPSP Conference has become a pivotal conference for understanding these changes, and provides an engaging environment for open dialogue between publishers and librarians. We are delighted to once again be supporting ALPSP in facilitating this conversation.”

Survey responses should be completed online here. Any questions can be sent to Katie.baker@sagepub.co.uk. The competition will start April 14, 2014 and will end May 24, 2014.
