Sociological Research Online to be published by SAGE Publishing in partnership with The British Sociological Association
Published quarterly since 1996, SRO is an online only journal publishing high-quality research pertaining to sociological enquiry. It is a vital space revealing the importance of how sociological research is crucial to understanding contemporary social issues.
Since the 1990s the journal has been published on a stand-alone website by a consortium of the universities of Surrey and Stirling, SAGE and the BSA. The two universities have stepped down and the journal will now be published on SAGE Journals. SAGE and the BSA will work with the Editors and Editorial Board to develop and support the journal’s growth moving forwards.
The co-editors of SRO, Charlie Walker and Steven Roberts, commented:
"We are both proud and excited that the transition of SRO to a new platform with SAGE and the BSA is taking place under our editorship. Due to its online-only format, SRO since its inception has been able to act both as a mainstream journal covering the full breadth of sociological inquiry and as a platform for special collections on emerging areas, rapid response articles on topical issues, and sub-disciplines such as visual sociology. We are confident that the new platform will enable us to take this unique offering to a wider audience in the coming years."
John Horne, Chair Board of Trustees, British Sociological Association, stated:
"Support for sociologists and the promotion of sociological research and insight are central to the mission of the British Sociological Association. Working in partnership with SAGE, the enhanced SRO offers an exciting development in publishing for sociologists at all stages of their careers."
Miranda Nunhofer, Executive Director, Humanities and Social Science Journals, SAGE Publishing further commented:
“Having worked with SRO since its inception, alongside the universities of Surrey and Stirling and the BSA, it has been a pleasure to see the journal evolve to be the key space for the exchange and debate of sociological research that it is today. By transitioning onto the SAGE Journals platform SRO will benefit from the full range of our publishing services, ensuring that its high-quality content will reach an even wider audience globally.”
