Researching with Children and Young People covers every stage of the process of doing a research project, from research design and data collection, through to analysis and writing up.
The book is divided into three sections, in which the authors cover:
- Introducing research and consultation with children and young people
- Collecting and analysing data
- Whole-project issues.
Each chapter includes activities, discussion questions, tips and extended case studies to help the reader to engage with the material and investigate the practical implications.
This text will be of great use to postgraduate researchers in education, social work and nursing, and any practitioner involved in carrying out research with children and young people.
This is one of the better, more useful academic texts on the market which senior researchers and academics will find inspirational when researching this sector...Incredibly useful for real research situations

This book provides valuable practical advice, utilising a range of professional contexts as illustrative examples of the issues faced when conducting research with children.
This is an excellent text for those considering researching with children and young people
Well written with a wide range of relevant topics that informs the reader but also encourages wider understandings.
A real source for anyone who is considering to do research with children. It covers all the topics that the researcher would need to answer before gaining ethical approval for ones research and also conseptual issues that lead research process. The book is based on various research which is a great bonus for those who want to learn from practical examples
excellent text that explores the key themes in relation to research with children and young people.
the layout of the text is supportive to students learning needs and the use of reflection and case studies enhance points raised.
would recommend this for all child health practitioners undertaking research with children not just for undergraduate nurses. a pleasure to review
This is a well organised book that investigates the issues when researching with children. Can be easily adopted for students' use.
A good resources that covers; in quite a high level of detail; the process of carrying out research on Children and Young People.
As it is intended as an advanced level of study it does require some basic understanding of research practice and terminology and uses a high level of English language throughout the text. There are some excellent resources for groups looking to carry out research, as well as students who are looking to develop their own skills within the field.
There are a number of very detailed case studies that look to cover a wide range of areas however the high level of study, as well as the academic subject area make this a little inaccessable for Foundation Degree level and therefore would be better as a supporting resource.
Covers all aspects of research including research design, methods and analysis. The section 'supporting young people as researchers' gave useful tips, including advice on ethical issues.
I like the fact the references are at the end of each chapter.
Good use of case studies and examples to bring research to life.
Very practical ideas - great for students with specific projects working with children
