“For undergraduates it offers a broader understanding of violence and for this and other reasons, it is better than its competitor.”
“The text is very instructive when considering the significance of violence throughout the world. The opening reference to the idea that “all violence is connected,” and that we live within a “unity of human aggression” is a testament to the reality of violence within all aspects of American society.”
“The text gives detailed overview of violence while presenting the material in a way so that students can critically engage with the material. I would without a doubt use this book if I were to teach a violence class, and would consider using it as an ancillary in a theory class, especially at the graduate level.”
While recorded crime in the UK - particularly acquisitive crime - violent crime bucks this trend. This text offers a broad appreciation of the issues and is suitable for general reading

The book is well written and interesting. Though, for our intended purposes, it is somewhat lacking when it comes to the psychological aspects of violence. I would prefer a book with deeper and more thorough psychological theorizing in relation to violence.
Great book, but too extensive
The comprehensive material provided by the text related to the topic of violence in society.
This is an excellent resource for US rather than UK courses
Excellent resource, that explores concepts from a range of perspectives in an easy to read style.
